Minnesota-Made Polka and Old-Time, 24-7!

Polkacast by markjohnson on May 8, 2014

Welcome to Pioneer 90.1’s new PolkaCast!

With the help of longtime hosts Ron & Elsie Shereck and Cathy Erickson, we’ve established a tradition of bringing you the best of old-time, polka, and classic country from all across the state of Minnesota.

Now, when The Barndance and Cathy’s Variety Show go off the air, the goodtime music doesn’t stop!

If you are a polka or old-time musician, send us your CD to be played on the PolkaCast.

And if you’d like to host a show, please give us a call at 218-683-8588 or email ksrq@northlandcollege.edu!

Listen 24-7 here online, look for the Pioneer PolkaCast on TuneIn Radio, and check back for updates on our soon-to-be-released app for your mobile device!

The Pioneer PolkaCast is made possible by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Classic toys at MN Historical Society

Featured Programs by markjohnson on April 29, 2014

For a new generation of kids, a favorite toy might be an app on a computer tablet. But for the children of the 1950s, 60s and 70s, the toys they remember were more physical objects – metal, wood and plastic instead of electrons on a screen. Now those classic toys are part of a new exhibit opening in May at the MN Historical Society in St Paul. It’s called Toys of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Here to tell us about it is senior exhibit developer Kate Roberts.

3D Printing on display at Northland

Featured Programs by markjohnson on April 29, 2014

Have you ever had a perfectly good appliance that you can no longer use because a part has worn out? In the not too distant future, you may be able to manufacture the part yourself, at home, with a 3D printer. Kirsten Mischalke from Northland’s Center for Outreach and Innovation stopped by Pioneer 90.1 to talk about a May 5th event that will showcase the new technology.
