On this show, we feature outstate artist PeatMoss & the Spreaders (from North Dakota) and two singer-songwriters from Ontario, Bonnie Couchie and Binaeshee Quae Councie Nabigon, along with regulars Bob Muscovitz, Nigel Egg and Rachael Kilgour. Thursday, August 17th through Sunday, August 20th

• August 16th – 20th Ox Cart Days in Crookston. Events include tractor pull, bed races, pig races, live music and dance, Torchlight Parade, Corn & Brat Feed, RibFest, airboat rides on the Red Lake Riverand more.

• August 17th – 20th Heritage Days in East Grand Forks. Events include live music, heritage exhibitions, a parade, children’s games and much more for the entire family.

• August 18th – 20th Good Old Days in Viking, MN with demonstrations on threshing and other old time work. A parade, food – including fresh lefse, an historic presentation on stage, live music from the “Woodpicks” and much more.

• August 25th – 27th Grygla, MN Centennial NW Minnesota Arts Council sponsored events are:

 Klondike Chainsaw Wood Carvings from Red Lake Falls, MN.
 Live bluegrass and gospel from the “Woodpicks” of northwest Minnesota.
 A “steamroller” from Cannon Falls, MN to help make personal “prints”, quilt and needle point demonstrations.
 A character/sketching artist.

Amy Holte and Betsy Saurdiff of Grygla, MN successfully wrote grant applications from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council (NWMAC) for multiple art projects that will take place at the Grygla Centennial Celebration. The event is being held August 25th through the 27th. Among the seven NWMAC sponsored events are: Klondike Chainsaw Wood Carvings from Red Lake Falls, MN, live bluegrass and gospel from the “Woodpicks” of northwest Minnesota, a “steamroller” from Cannon Falls, MN to help make personal “prints”, quilt and needle point demonstrations, a character artist and the Nor-Sweden dancers form Fargo, ND – dressing and dancing in traditional Scandinavian music.

Pioneer 90.1 to Broadcast from MN State Fair

Northland Community & Technical College radio station Pioneer 90.1 will broadcast live from the Minnesota State Fair on Thursday, August 31.

Cathy Erickson will host her variety show from 9 AM to noon, playing requests from listeners. Twin Cites musician Elwood Oschner will join Cathy for live accordion music.

From noon to 1 PM and 4 to 5 PM, The Jensen Sisters of Goodridge will debut their new weekly show, “Gypsy Outlaw Radio Hour with The Jensen Sisters.”

Carl Unbehaun and Mark Johnson will host from 1 to 5 PM, with live acoustic performances by members of the Minnesota Songwriters Association. Pennington and Marshall County 4-H’ers and other Minnesota State Fair exhibitors will also stop by for interviews.

The live broadcast will switch from Pioneer 90.1 to Pioneer Polkacast KSRQ HD-2 beginning at 5 PM with Cathy Erickson’s Variety Show.

At 7 PM on Pioneer 90.1, Carl Unbehaun will host a live edition of his Thursday night “Minnesota HomeBrew” show, featuring recordings of original songs written and performed by Minnesota musicians.

 

Pioneer 90.1 will broadcast from the Ampers booth inside the Education building on the east side of the fairgrounds, between Cosgrove Street and Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.

Ampers is a group of 18 different community radio stations throughout Minnesota. Each station is programmed by and for their specific community.

In addition to the radio broadcast, Pioneer 90.1 will stream live video from the fair at Facebook.com/Pioneer90.1

The broadcast is supported by the Thief River Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau, Jade Presents, Minot HostFest, GooseFest in Middle River, and Music & Dance News.
