Sankta Lucia is an Italian saint that gave to the poor. When there was a famine in Sweden, Santka Lucia gave food to the poor farmers. The traditions of Sankta Lucia are preserved at the American Swedish Institiute, housed in a mansion built in Minneapolis. Constructed in 1904, it cost over a million dollars and took seven years to complete.
