“Arts Calendar”
April 24th through April 27th

• A dinner theatre “The “Last Supper” will be performed on Saturday April 26th and Sunday April 27th in Lancaster, Minnesota. Performance times are 6 pm; for more information, 218-762-5891.

• The Greater Grand Forks Community Theater production of “Last of the Boys” completes its run this weekend at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks. Performance times on Friday, April 25th and Saturday, April 26th are 7:30. The Sunday matinee on the 27th begins at 2:00pm at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks.

• The Empire Arts Center will have an art deco inspired Dinner & Dance on Saturday, April 26th at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. This event will feature the world-class James Gerard Orchestra, an 11-member big dance band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The dinner and dance begins at 6:00pm.

• The Annual Spring Art Exhibit, sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council wraps up this weekend in Middle River, Minnesota. The public is welcome to view many displays of art work from many mediums. The exhibit is open Friday Saturday and Sunday, April 25th through the 27th and can be viewed at the Middle River Community Center and American Legion. A reception for three outstanding art supporters will be held Sunday evening.

• The 2nd Annual “LUNAFEST” in Fargo will be held Thursday, April 24th at the historic Fargo Theatre. The evening begins with a Social & Silent Auction at 6pm. Films begin at 7 pm.

• Dr. Alejandro Drago, UND Violin Professor will perform at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Minnesota on Sunday, April 27th at 3:00 pm. Donations accepted at the Door.

• The North Dakota Museum of Art presents the Myhra Classical Music Series finale, performed by the “Cecilia String Quartet” of Toronto Canada, this Sunday afternoon at 2, April 27th at the NDMOA on the UND campus.

• The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, celebrating its 75th anniversary, presents “Stirring Celebrations!” The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra anniversary performance will be held at the Sanford Center in Bemidji on Sunday, May 4th.

Pioneer 90.1 “Arts Calendar”
(Weekend of Thursday 4-17-14 through Sunday 4-20-14)

The Agassiz Swedish Heritage Society is sponsoring a Swedish Meatball Dinner with entertainment by the Rusty Cords on Thursday, April 24th, beginning at 5:30 in Warren, Minnesota. Reservations and more information: 745-4915.
The Vietnam War ended, but for some, the ghosts live on. The production of “Last of the Boys” opens this weekend at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks, a production of the Greater Grand Forks Community Theater. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, April 17th through the 19th at 7:30.
The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council’s “Spring Art Exhibit” is now featured at the Community Club and American Legion Hall in Middle River, Minnesota. The exhibition includes art work from regional artists in Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Red Lake, Polk, Pennington and Norman counties – to include photography, sketches, glass-work, pottery, sculpture and paintings. The exhibit will be open until April 27th.
Current art exhibits at the North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks include “Songs for Spirit Lake.”
Grand Cities Idol 2014 will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:30 pm at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the University of North Dakota campus in Grand Forks. The completion features regional and local performers with the audience casting their votes for the winner of the competition.
“Haydn’s Creation” will be presented by Master Chorale of East Grand Forks/Grand Forks and the University of North Dakota Music Department at Chester Fritz Auditorium at UND on Saturday, April 26th.

Under the direction of Associate Professor George French, the award winning rock musical “Little Shop of Horrors” will be performed by students in the Music and Theater Department at the University of Minnesota Crookston, this Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, April 5, 6, 7, and 8th. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. each evening in Kiehle Auditorium. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and children.

The North Dakota Ballet Company presents “Poetry in Motion”, Saturday April 5th at 7:30 pm at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks. Tickets are available at the door.

Musicians from the Northern Valley Youth Orchestras will perform a Spring Concert on Sunday, April 6th at 4:30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks. The performance is titled “Spring Serenade: NVYO Garden Party.”

Holocaust survivor Marion Blumental Lazan will share a first -hand account of her family’s life in Germany under Nazi control on Wednesday, April 9th at the Fisher Public School in Fisher, Minnesota. The presentation begins at 10 am and the public is welcome to attend.

Minnesota’s Mason Jennings performs this Friday, April 4th at the Fargo Theater, 314 Broadway in downtown Fargo. Show time is 8:00pm. The opening act is Iris Dement, country, folk and gospel singer from Paragould, Arkansas.

“Joseph and the Amazing Color Dreamcoat” opens this weekend at “The Stage at Island Park” in Fargo. Performances by the Moorhead/Fargo Community Theater are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm.

The opening and a reception for the art exhibit by Dan Jones will be held on Friday, April 4th from 6 to 8 pm at ECCE Art in downtown Fargo, 216 North Broadway. His work reflects the farmland, landscapes, and lake and river scenes in northwest Minnesota and eastern North Dakota.

“Iron Range Discovery Day” is this Saturday, April 5th at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm, Minnesota. Museum exhibits, demonstrations and special programs will be featured. For more information call toll free at 800-372-6437.

The Drama Department at Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks will present “Little Women” at the Sacred Heart Auditorium. Performances are Friday and Saturday, March 21st and March 22nd at 7:00 pm and Sunday, March 23rd at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00 dollars for adults and $5.00 for students.

“Rockin’ the Ralph” – Fantasy on Ice Show is this Saturday, March 22nd at 6:00 pm and Sunday, March 23rd at 2:00 pm – at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.

A free movie – called “Frozen” will be shown Sunday afternoon, March 23rd at the Roso Theatre in Roseau, Minnesota. The doors open at 2:00 pm.

“Trio Solisti” will perform this Sunday, March 23rd at the North Dakota Museum of Art at 2:00 pm. The trio will feature chamber music on the violin. For more information on Trio Solisti, go to ndmoa.com.

The Northern Lights Figure Skating Club will present “Dancing through the Decades” on Saturday, March 22nd at 7:00 pm and Sunday, March 23rd at 2:00 pm at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

The Empire Theater Company presents “The Spit Fire Grill” at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks, Monday, March 24th through Saturday, March29th. Performances each night are at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $12.00 for students and members.

The 40th Annual Lamberton Jazz Festival will be held on Tuesday, March 25th in Lamberton, Minnesota. Lamberton is in south-central Minnesota, just west of New Ulm.

Fargo band “Boots” will perform on Thursday, March 27th at 8:00 pm at the Hotel Donaldson in downtown Fargo. The band is known for their bluegrass, Delta-Blues, classic folk and gypsy swing.

Minnesota’s Mason Jennings and Iris Dement will perform at the Fargo Theater on Friday, April 4th. Performance time is 8:00 pm.

The “Cabin Fever Festival” will be held this Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd and 23rd in Duluth, Minnesota – sponsored by the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association. The festival includes stage shows, draw bands, open stage, workshops, and jam sessions around the clock.

Marion Blumenthal Lazan will share a first -hand account of her family’s life in Germany from imprisonment in concentration camps to liberation in April of 1945. Her presentation will be Wednesday, April 9th at 10 am at the Fisher Public School.
