Thomasina_Petrus_Podcast.mp3Mixed Blood Theater is a professional, multiracial theater company that has been presenting shows in Minneapolis since 1976. Mixed Blood also has a touring group that travels the upper midwest, presenting cultural shows at schools, colleges, and community centers.

One of Mixed Blood’s four current touring shows is “Daughters of Africa,” and it makes a stop at Northland Community and Technical College – Thief River Falls tonight (2/8) at 7PM and at the East Grand Forks Campus tomorrow (2/9) at noon.

The one-woman show starring Thomasina Petrus, will be performed Wednesday (2/8) at 7PM at the Northland College Theater in Thief River Falls and Thursday (2/9) at noon at the East Grand Forks Campus. Both performances are free and open to the public.

“Daughters of Africa” was written for Mixed Blood Theatre by award-winning playwright Syl Jones. It’s a striking collection of profiles of remarkable famous and sometimes forgotten African-American women.

“Northland Spotlight” is aired Monday afternoons at 3:05 and highlights the activities, events, administration, faculty, staff and students of Northland.

Carl_Unbehaun_Radio.mp3By day, Carl Unbehaun gives hope to those who’ve been displaced by the economic downturn. He’s a counselor at the Minnesota Workforce Center on the campus of Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls. Carl knows how to put workers together with jobs that’ll suit them. He also knows how to pair original words and melodies in songs he calls strange, quirky, and even a little bit naughty.

We’ll hear a live performance from Carl Unbehaun, recorded at Pioneer 90.1’s RiverFest event at Hartz Park in Thief River Falls. We’ll also sample some of Carl’s demo recordings and hear him talk about his humorously articulate style of songwriting. Minnesota Arts on the Road is supported by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Thanks to funding support from Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, also known as the Legacy Fund,  Pioneer 90.1 has been able to produce great programming including  Minnesota Arts on the Road, featuring MN musicians performing live in our area. Funding also is used for our Write On series, and for our series on the Northwest MN Arts Council to inform you about artistic and cultural events in our community.

Funds also help statewide projects like MN90: Minnesota History in 90 Seconds.  Now the state wants your feedback on these programs.
