Jim speaks of his and Jan’s travels to Michigan and how people are actually “surfing” the waves of Lake Superior. Another trip took the couple to Tucson, Arizona, where they took a tour of the Spanish mission and Tucson Botanical Gardens. In addition to their out-of-state travels, Jim and Jan toured the James J. Hill house on Summit Avenue in St. Paul. Jan describes the elaborate mansion and its finest features.

Edgar Hetten of Northwest Minnesota passed away in 2011. He is credited with starting the snowmobile industry.

Jim speaks about the Strandlies’ trip to Spain, Italy and Greece. Also in the show — Minnesota’s Famous Wrestlers: Vern Gagne was a profesional wrestler who hailed from Minnesota. In 1949 he went pro and won several heavyweight titles. His life in his later years was quite tragic.Jesse Ventura is another wrestler from Minnesota. Jan tells of former Governor Ventura’s background and accomplishments.

Sankta Lucia of Augustana Luth. Church American Swedish Institute

Sankta Lucia is an Italian saint that gave to the poor. When there was a famine in Sweden, Santka Lucia gave food to the poor farmers. The traditions of Sankta Lucia are preserved at the American Swedish Institiute, housed in a mansion built in Minneapolis. Constructed in 1904, it cost over a million dollars and took seven years to complete.

The Guthrie Theater first opened in 1963 in Minneapolis. Jim tells how it got started, the unique construction, and how it brought the national arts scene to Minnesota. Also in the show: Jan interviews Jane Anderson of the Thief River Falls, MN Arts Council. They talk about the history of the Arts Council and how it brings all aspects of art, music, visual art and literary arts to Northwest Minnesota.
