• Winner of the 2011 Obie Award for Playwriting, A Bright New Boise is an earnest comedy about the meager profits of modern faith. Performance time at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks is Saturday, April 4th at 7:30 pm and the Empire Arts Center phone number is 701-746-5500.

• Country music artist Eric Church will be bring his Outsiders World Tour to the Ralph Engelstad Arena stage… as Church performs on Tuesday, April 7th at 7:30 pm.

• The Chester Fritz Library, on the UND campus in Grand Forks, will host an exhibit called “1814 to 2014 Red, White and Blue: Norwegian Constitution, American Inspiration”, a celebration of the bicentenary of the Norwegian Constitution, April 8-23 on the second and third floors of the Library. The event is free and open to the public.

• The Greater Grand Forks Community Theater presents “The Boys Next Door” at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks. The opening show is Thursday, April 9th and runs through April 25th. Performances each Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm.

• Tuesday, April 7th, the Jose Cole Circus will be hosted by the Karlstad Lions Club. 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 7th in the Tri-County Gymnasium at Karlstad, MN.

• The Tri-County Senior High Drama Department presents ‘You Can’t Be Too Careful’, Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th7:30pm at the Lancaster School West Gym, in Lancaster, MN.

• The North Dakota Ballet Company’s Concert, based in Grand Forks, is Saturday, March 28th at the Empire Arts Center of downtown Grand Forks. Performance time is 8:00 pm, with the box office opening at 6:00 pm. The performance is titled “When There’s’ Smoke There’s Fire.”

• The Northern Valley Youth Orchestra presents its season finale concert “All the World’s a Stage”, on Saturday, March 21st at 7:00 pm. The concert will be held at the Empire Arts Center of downtown Grand Forks. Three orchestras comprised of students aged 9 to 21 will perform selections, from ballet to opera, stage, screen, and more.

• The 46th Annual UND Writers Conference will be held Wednesday Mar 25th through Friday, March 27th at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the UND campus in Grand Forks. The event is free and open to the public. Featured writers include Roxanne Gay, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Tara Betts and Alexandra Grant.

• The Grand Forks Public Library is hosting a free movie, on Saturday, March 21st at 2:00 pm. The movie is Big Hero Six. Everyone is welcome to attend.

• Friday, March 27th, Saturday March 28th and Sunday, March 29th the students of Stephen-Argyle Central School present “Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical.” Friday & Saturday at7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm at the Stephen-Argyle School Auditorium in Stephen, MN.

On Thursday, March 19th, a performance of “The Seven Nasty Princesses” will be on stage at the Badger, MN school.  $15 for a dinner and the show. Dinner at 6:00pm and show time at 7:00pm. 528-3201 for tickets.

TheArtist’s Unlimited – Paint Day” is Saturday, March 21st at 9am at the Evangelical Free Church of Thief River Falls.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Empire Arts Center of downtown Grand Forks will feature “The Nite the Music Died” on Saturday, March 14th at 8:00 pm.  A reenactment of the music of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper will be highlighted.  Tickets at the door or at 800-745-3000.

The Myra Museum and Campbell House at 2405 Belmont Road, Grand Forks presents “Entertaining History.”  Lloyd Omdahl, former Lt. Governor of North Dakota will be presenting this Sunday at 2:00 pm.  Themes include “The Grand Senatorial Conspiracy of 1974: How Quentin Burdick & Milton Young Conspired to Defeat William Guy in the Senate Race.”  The event is free.

“Play Day” at the Fire Hall Theater of downtown Grand Forks is Friday, March 20th.

Children, grades 1st through 8th will experience theatre games and creating a play based on a story that’s read.  Stage make-up, costume pieces, and a craft will also be featured.  Pre-register at ggfct.com.

A “Spring Carnival” is being held this weekend in Biwabik, MN – on the Iron Range of northeast Minnesota.

A St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held in downtown Fargo on Saturday, March 14th.  Another St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held this Saturday, the 14th in Cross Lake, MN.

• “Family Day” is this Saturday, February 28th from 10 am until 12 noon at the North Dakota Museum of Art – based on the UND campus in Grand Forks. Family Day is two hours of discovering and creating art…. for children, parents, care-givers, grandmas and grandpas. The event is free this Saturday at the NDMOA.

• A program called “Warrior Words II”, first-hand stories from the perspective of those who have served their country in the military, will be read at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks this Sunday, March 1st, beginning at 2:00 pm. Along with readings and conversation, coffee and pie will be served. More information at – infor@ggfct.com.

• The Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra will perform this weekend, Saturday, February 28th at 7:30pm at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks. In keeping with the orchestra’s season-long emphasis on Scandinavian music, the concert will feature Nordic Moods – a Feast of Scandinavian Music” and features the U.S. premiere of Grand Forks’ native Matthew Peterson’s “Hyperborea.”

• “Spank – The Fifties Shades Parody” will be performed on stage at the Chester Fritz Auditorium in Grand Forks, on the UND campus, on Friday, February 27th. Curtain time is 7:30 pm.

• The Last Potluck Supper: The Church Basement Ladies – will performed at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on Sunday, March 1st. Curtain time is 3:00 pm.

• Memphis: The Musical will be onstage at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on Tuesday, March 3rd. Curtain time is 7:30 pm.

• Grand Forks Central High School presents “The Music Man”, March 5th, 6th and 7th. Curtain time is 7:00 pm, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Grand Forks Central High School.

• Dance to music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s at the “Spring Swing Fling” featuring the University of Minnesota – Crookston C Jazz Band, on Saturday, March 7th at 7:00 pm in Bede Ballroom, on the UMC campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Pioneer 90.1 Weekly Arts Calendar February 19th through February 23rd

A tea and style show will be held on Friday, February 20th at the Grand Forks Senior Center, the event begins at 1:30. Information at 772-7245.

Learning with music is this coming Saturday, February 21st at the Campbell Public Library of East Grand Forks., from 10:30 to 11:00 am.

A free movie will be shown at the Grand Forks Public Library on Saturday the 21st. The movie is “The Boxtrolls” and it begins at 2:00 pm.

The production of “Guys on Ice” a cheesy musical about ice fishing in Wisconsin continues this weekend at the Fire Hall Theater in downtown Grand Forks. Curtain time both Friday and Saturday is 7:00 pm with a 2:00 pm matinee on Sunday. The phone number for more information is 777-4090.

“From Rembrandt to Picasso and Beyond”, a UND art collections exhibit, will be open to the public on Saturday, February 21st from 10:00 until 3:00 PM at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks.

A variety show will be held on Sunday, February 22nd at the American Legion in Middle River, MN from 1:00 until 4:00 pm. BBQ and ice cream sundaes will be available.

A music concert called “Sacred Sounds” will be performed at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church of Stephen, MN – that on Wednesday, February 25th at7:30pm. The public is welcome to attend.

The art exhibition “African Affair” continues this weekend at the North Dakota Museum of Art. Also at the NDMOA, based on the campus of the University of North Dakota, the “Sunday Concert in the Galleries Series” continues on Sunday, February 22nd, with a performance of “Duo Cantabile.” Performance time is 2 pm this Sunday.

“The Glory of Living”, a contemporary play by Rebecca Gillman depicting a troubled young woman and her manipulative husband, will be performed Tuesday February 24th through Saturday, February 28th at the Burtness Theater at UND. Performance time each evening is 7:00 o’clock.

The four-time Grammy Award-winning a cappella vocal group “Ladysmith Black Mambazo” will perform at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 pm.
