Community Voices: Poet Scott Cameron returns to Red Lake Falls, NW Regional Libraries

Scott Cameron’s professional life in law and banking has taken him all around the world. Now his poetry is bringing him back home. Scott Cameron was born and raised in Red Lake Falls, and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1982. Northwest Regional Library is hosting Cameron’s book tour March 5-8. The poet will read from his new book “In Absentia.” The book is a collection of poems dealing with themes of mortality, the natural world, brotherhood, the senses, time, love, nightfall, and displacement.

Welcome Northland Students! Want to learn about broadcasting? Be on the air! Pioneer 90.1 is opening up 4 one-hour airshifts for Northland students who want to volunteer their time, energy, and enthusiasm!

Pioneer 90.1 to Broadcast from MN State Fair

Northland Community & Technical College radio station Pioneer 90.1 will broadcast live from the Minnesota State Fair on Thursday, August 31.

Cathy Erickson will host her variety show from 9 AM to noon, playing requests from listeners. Twin Cites musician Elwood Oschner will join Cathy for live accordion music.

From noon to 1 PM and 4 to 5 PM, The Jensen Sisters of Goodridge will debut their new weekly show, “Gypsy Outlaw Radio Hour with The Jensen Sisters.”

Carl Unbehaun and Mark Johnson will host from 1 to 5 PM, with live acoustic performances by members of the Minnesota Songwriters Association. Pennington and Marshall County 4-H’ers and other Minnesota State Fair exhibitors will also stop by for interviews.

The live broadcast will switch from Pioneer 90.1 to Pioneer Polkacast KSRQ HD-2 beginning at 5 PM with Cathy Erickson’s Variety Show.

At 7 PM on Pioneer 90.1, Carl Unbehaun will host a live edition of his Thursday night “Minnesota HomeBrew” show, featuring recordings of original songs written and performed by Minnesota musicians.

 

Pioneer 90.1 will broadcast from the Ampers booth inside the Education building on the east side of the fairgrounds, between Cosgrove Street and Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.

Ampers is a group of 18 different community radio stations throughout Minnesota. Each station is programmed by and for their specific community.

In addition to the radio broadcast, Pioneer 90.1 will stream live video from the fair at Facebook.com/Pioneer90.1

The broadcast is supported by the Thief River Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau, Jade Presents, Minot HostFest, GooseFest in Middle River, and Music & Dance News.
