Artists and those who support the fine arts are featured each week on Pioneer 90.1, Tuesday at 3:05PM, as part of the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council feature series.  Masters Jacobson shared the story of developing and opening a new co-op store based in downtown East Grand Forks, the River Walk Artists Shop & Gallery. The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council was a driving force behind the new venue. Store hours are 11:00AM to 7:00PM, Tuesday through Sunday.

Arts store opens in EGF Riverwalk Center

Mara Wittman InterviewMara Wittman, Director of the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council, announced the opening of a new store in the RiverWalk Center in downtown East Grand Forks on Pioneer 90.1.  The store opens on “Black Friday” and is dedicated to the display and sale of artistic works produced by regional residents.  Mara also discussed the deadline for important grant money application and the unveiling of a large sculpture on the grounds of the Roseau Public Library.

Scott HansenA lot of very funny people come from Minnesota. The state is home to Louie Anderson, Tom Arnold, and our Senator, Al Franken. And while Scott Hansen may not be voting on cutting the federal budget, he has been named Minnesota Comedian of the year five times. He plays a benefit for the children of military families in Ada on Saturday, November 19.

Marshall County plans wind turbine farm

Marshall County plans wind turbine farmA proposed wind farm would be located between Newfolden and Viking, MN, on approximately 40-thousand acres.  To this point, 20-thousand acres have been signed into agreement for use from landowners.  65 turbines are planned for the area.  A public meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 7, 2011 in the Newfolden Community Center to present relevant project information to regional residents and answer  questions that citizens may have about the proposed wind farm.

After receiving required permits, project construction could begin in May of 2012, with a potential completion date of December 2012.

Rory Cantwell, Project Development Manager for Air Energy TCI, an international renewable energy development company that delivers projects across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and the United States.  spoke to Pioneer 90.1 from Mr. Cantwell’s office in Montreal, Quebec.

But why watch a movie about bird watching, when you can watch birds right in your own backyard?

Heidi Hughes, manager of the Audubon Center of the Red River Valley in Warren, will have a presentation on attracting birds to your backyard Monday evening at 6:30 the Thief River Falls Public Library.
