Martha Reeves June 11, 2012Our guest today scored over a dozen hit singles, including “Jimmy Mack”, “Dancing in the Street” and “Nowhere to Run” in the Motown group Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. She’s been busy lately, on-stage and off, appearing on VH-1’s “Divas Celebrate Soul” with Kelly Clarkson last winter, and Dancing with the Stars last spring. She’s also active in politics – serving as an elected councilwoman for the city of Detroit from 2005-2009, and is a board member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Detroit chapter, where she works for better wages and royalties for performers.
We’re teaming up again this year with our fellow Ampers station, KVSC – St. Cloud State University, to bring you a full weekend of trivia! “33 1/3: Trivia Long Play” honors the 33rd consecutive year of Trivia Weekend and salutes KVSC — the only central Minnesota station still playing vinyl records.
From eight-tracks and cassette tapes to CDs and mp3s, there is only one medium that has stood the test of time: vinyl records. Expect this year’s 50-hour Trivia Weekend marathon to have questions on LPs, 45s and 78RPM records and all the nostalgia that comes with them.
We join KVSC at 6PM Friday (2/10). We’ll take a break for The Saturday Morning Barndance from 7 to 11AM, and join back up for trivia for the rest of the weekend.
If you want to continue playing during the Barndance, please listen to KVSC’s webstream.
Join local artist and volunteer host Pat Ledin Dunning tonight (2/1) at 7 for “Jazz and Stuff,” as she reads poetry from Mrs. Waterworth’s 4th grade class at Marshall County Central in Newfolden.
“Jazz and Stuff” features music perfect for relaxing, getting some work done, visiting with friends, or reading a book. “Jazz and Stuff” airs Wednesday evenings, 7 to 9 on Pioneer 90.1. Tune in for jazz, some 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s memories, a bit of poetry, and an occasional guest.

Grand_Forks_Master_Chorale.mp3 When we think of sing-alongs, we might picture campfire songs or following the bouncing ball at karaoke. But a sing-along planned for Friday night at St. Michael’s church in Grand Forks will be quite a bit more high-class than that.
It’s an audience-participation version of Handel’s Messiah, performed by The Grand Forks Master Chorale and, hopefully, by you.
Listen to Mark Johnson’s interview with Grand Forks Master Chorale Artistic Director, Dr. Joshua Bronfman.
