Sunday, October 18th is the “Harvest Festival” at the Karlstad Baptist Church of Karlstad, Minnesota beginning at 4:00 pm with music by the Popple Ridge Pickers. Supper will follow and everyone is welcome to attend.
Tuesday, October 20th the “Twin Forks Chorus” will perform at the Stephen Community Arts Center in Stephen, Minnesota. Performance time is 7:30pm.
The Crookston Community Theater presents “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” this weekend at the University of Minnesota Crookston – Kiehle Auditorium. Curtain time on Friday and Saturday is 7:30 pm. There is no Sunday matinee.
Speaker and former Miss America Tara Conner will give a presentation at the University of Minnesota – Crookston campus on Wednesday, October 21st at 7 pm. The event is free and open to the public and will be held in Kiehle Auditorium. The talk highlights National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week on campus.
The North Dakota Museum of Art is partnering with the University of North Dakota Music Department to provide a three-day music festival this weekend called “Celebrating Music.” More information at 777-4195. Also the NDMOA open two new exhibitions this Saturday, October 17th and the first in a series of Sunday afternoon classical music series opens this Sunday at the NDMOA – performance time is 2 pm.
The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council has opened a traveling art exhibit at the Fosston, Minnesota Library and Arts Center. A wide variety of visual media will be on display. The exhibit will be available in Fosston through mid-November.
The University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble and Band will perform at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the UND campus – next Tuesday, October 20th at 3 pm.

The guest is Matt Wallace and his topic is a new winter music series called “NDMOA Downtown.” The series will be patterned after the successful “Summer Concerts in the Garden Series.”
The first performance is next Tuesday, October 13th at the Empire Arts Center – featuring Ben Capland and the “Casual Smokers.” During our chat, I played a cut from the CBC “Q” program – where host Jean Ghomeshi featured the singer (2013).
The Israeli music group “Baladino” is conducting school workshops and performing in public at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls on Saturday, October 10th. Band member Yonnie Dror talks about the origin of the group, their music and why they came to northwest Minnesota.
