Barb Geer is the director of “Steel Magnolias”, a presentation of the Thief River Falls, MN Community/Arts Theater. She’s also publisher of a weekly newspaper in Middle River, MN called “The Honker.” Barb talks about the theater group’s stage performance, an unexpected alteration of script due to a severe thunderstorm and her work with “The Honker.”

Arts Calendar

• The Marshall County Fair in Warren, Minnesota continues this weekend, through Sunday. Todd Armstrong Shows will be on the midway. There’s a huge fireworks display Friday evening, other events include music on the free stage, a talent show and chariot races, a tractor pull and demolition derby.

• “Summer Fest 2014” is this weekend in Red Lake Falls, Friday through Sunday. Friday’s events include a beauty contest and live music from 9pm to midnight. Saturday activities include a 5K/10K run and walk, motorcycle run, a parade at 11 am, children’s games and more live music in the evening.

• The “Blues on the Red” summer concert series continues this weekend, on Saturday evening, July 26th, from 6 until 10 at the Town Square in downtown Grand Forks. The free event will feature “Reverend Raven and the Chain Smoking Altar Boys.”

• “Halloween in July” will be held at the Turtle River Sate Park in Arvilla, ND – just west of Grand Forks, on Saturday, July 26th at 7pm. The event is free for children and adults. There’ll be a costume contest in the park amphitheater.

• The North Dakota Museum of Art presents “St. Paul and the Broken Bones” this coming Tuesday, July 29th at the NDMOA on the campus of UND in Grand Forks. Performance time is 7pm.

• The Warroad Summer Theater will present the “Summer Popcorn Players”, July 29th through August 2nd at the Warroad High School.

• In Roseau, the Riverview Park “Concert Night with Harmony”, will be held from 6:30 until 8pm, on Thursday, July 31st.

• The “Arts Partnership” will sponsor the second annual Downtown “Chalk Fest”, on Monday, August 11th, from 2:00 until 7:30pm at Island Park in Fargo. Children of all ages are welcome to attend, with activities, music, games and live music.
