Northland Community Band and High School Honor Band Present Their Autumn Musicale 2016

by GlenBraget on November 22, 2016

The sounds of Fall are on full display as the Northland Community Band team up with the Northland Honor Band to present their Autumn Musicale. Both bands are under the direction of NCTC Music Instructor Linda Samuelson.

The first group on the stage will be the Northland Community Band (NCB). They will open their portion of the program with a light, three-movement work, “Give Me Some Groove!,” followed by an arrangement of Auld Lang Syne, “Old Scottish Melody” arranged by Charles Wiley. The next piece is also a transcription. “March of the Trolls” is a musical frolic based on Norwegian folklore and their pesky trolls. “Folklore for Band” is an original piece that is inspired by British folk tunes. An Arkansas folk tune is the basis for “Travelin’ Music,” The Arkansas Traveler. The NCB will complete their program with a light, yet musically challenging composition, “Gee, Officer Krupke,” as heard in Bernstein’s musical West Side Story, before handing off the stage to the Honor Band.

The final group on the program is Northland’s High School Honor Band. The sixteen area schools attending this year’s high school festival and their directors are: Badger School – Lisa Erickson; Goodridge – Lorrisa Skalsky; Greenbush-Middle River – Nick Flattum; Grygla-Gatzke HS – Gene Lunsetter; Lake of the Woods – Liz Tange; Lancaster – Alanna Dawson; Lincoln High School – Katie Hahn; Mahnomen – Jill Bisek; Marshall County Central – Katie Miller; Red Lake Falls – Lacie Hovland; Roseau – Lance Dubay; Stephen-Argyle Central – Nathan Dalager; Tri-County HS – Brad Thompson; Warren-Alvarado-Oslo – Molly Fridstrom; Warroad – Duane Ledin; and Win-E-Mac – Amanda Shultz. Together these 16 schools are bringing 92 participants to Northland to share in a day of music making.

The following was recorded November 18, 2016 in the Northland Community & Technical College Theatre in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
