Bluegrass music lends itself to casual dress. When your plans just involve some pickin’ on the front porch, jeans and an old flannel shirt will suffice. But Twin Cities bluegrass group Monroe Crossing is known for its sharp, yesteryear-inspired stage outfits as well as its high-energy take on the high-lonesome sounds of its namesake, Bill Monroe.

Mark Johnson visits with Matt Thompson and Lisa Fuglie from Monroe Crossing as we listen to a live performance from the Kezar Music Showroom in Thief River Falls.

Minnesota Arts on the Road is made possible by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, and is produced by Pioneer 90.1 in Thief River Falls.

Where he differs from the typical Minnesota guy is that he spent some time in Nashville – playing clubs like Tootsies Orchid Lounge and writing songs with other country performers.
